What does „automatic high-volume preforming“ mean?

We moulds bound rovings and textile semi-finished products true to contour into their 3D geometry - Automated and Reproducible. For this we connect Robotics, Tool-supported draping/reshaping, Heating/pressure levels and Test/measuring stations to a clockable line. On request we integrate Existing process steps directly into preforming (e.g. cutting, stacking, joining, marking).

Process chain & technologies

1 Inlet & kitting

Punched/cut layers, TFP sub-preforms, roll goods; automated kitting and supply.

2 Handling & robotics

gentle grippers/EOAT, positional accuracy, repeatability.

3 Binder activation / forming

defined Temperature/pressure profiles on Preforming moulds, multi-stage heating/cooling zones, contour moulding.

4 Joining & fixing

Position-accurate joining of sub-preforms, local fixing (binder tack), optional marking/labelling.

5 Inline quality

Camera/optics for path/position control, geometry checks, weight/part completeness, traceability.

6 Buffer & logistics

Intermediate buffer, tray/rack handling, automatic transfer to RTM/infusion or next production stage.

Applications / Industries

Aerospace: true-to-contour 3D preforms for frames, stringers, brackets - process-reliable for RTM/Infusion.

Automotive large-scale production: Structural/crash reinforcements, inserts, hybrid stacks - high cycle times, robust handling.

Industry/Robotics: Lightweight, rigid components, reproducible contours, clean transfer to downstream processes.

Practical example (short)

Automotive side impact reinforcement (CF/GF hybrid)
Initial situation: varying quality in manual draping, bottlenecks in the cycle chain.
Solution: automatic line with kitting, robot handling, heated preform moulds, inline geometry check.
Result: Cycle < 90 s, Noticeable reduction in waste, stable handover to RTM, reliable Component/process data into the plant MES.

FAQ / Technical parameters

From handy preforms to medium-sized structural parts. We adapt the mould and gripper design to your contour.

We achieve short set-up times with quick-change concepts and customised kitting. Specific values result from the component and number of tools.

Bound CF/GF rovings and Fabric/cloth; other fibres on request. The combination with TFP sub-preforms is tried and tested.

We create Interfaces to your systems and report back the relevant process and quality data - for Traceability and Line transparency.

Yes, we often integrate Crop/Stacking, Local joining, Marking or Buffering directly into the preform cycle chain.
